Our partnership with the City of Pomona began in late 2023. We worked alongside their Parks and Rec team to assess different locations and develop different designs for a new skate dot within their community. The discovery process led us to an incredible grass section of John F. Kennedy Park that we could convert into a concrete slab.

Our partner at Parks and Rec began sketching different ideas based on experience and community input. Those sketches became the basis for our design, engineering and 3D modeling. We were able to deliver and install the park a short two months later. The skate spot was an immediate success with the City of Pomona and more importantly the community as a whole.

Design

Our Parks and Rec partner worked with the city and a local contractor to convert the grass portion of the park to a flat concrete slab that could later receive the skatepark components we fabricated. The slab was designed with a curvilinear edge aimed at creating an organic feel with the adjacent trees. The perimeter of the slab, called a slappy curb, was specifically designed and engineered with a special concrete mix to be an additional skateable feature for riders.

Build

Our Parks and Rec partner worked with the city and a local contractor to convert the grass portion of the park to a flat concrete slab that would later receive the skatepark components we fabricated. Construction of the features was completed in two pours with our in-house team of craftsmen.

Installation consisted of a large crane lifting and setting each component to a previously marked position on the slab. Members of Pomona City Park Services Division executed the install with on site assistance by Omega Ramps. The install was completed and skateable in just a few hours.

Skate

Skaters were excitedly skating the park by afternoon of the install day. A few weeks later a packed ribbon cutting was sponsored by Pawn Shop, a local skate shop. Energy was high and riders were praising the park. The community was ecstatic to have a new skate dot in their neighborhood.
